Hey, you're still here! Well here's a
little more information on me and the things I love.
STEELHEAD
FishingThe Puget Sound area
of Washington State has a large number of rivers. In particular, the Olympic
Peninsula, has a number of rivers known for their STEELHEAD runs. I love to
walk the rivers and fish the holes looking for these beautiful fish. Walking
the rivers is a peaceful place for me. I release 90% of the fish I catch.
The picture on the left is an 8 pound hen caught fifteen miles in on the
North Fork Quinalt river on a weekend backpacking trip. The fish on the
right is about an 15 pound hen caught near the mouth of the Hoh river as it
was coming in from the Ocean.

Hiking the Olympic Mountains
My family and I used to hike and backpack the
Olympics. Haven't been up for nearly three years. The Olympic Mountains is
part of the "Cascade Range" yet, they are disconnected and not really a
range at all. Rather the Olympics are a series of rings of mountains with
numerous passes, valleys, and of course rivers. My wife and I started taking
our boys back- packing when they were 6 and 4. The family has crossed the
Olympics (over low divide) and have put in hundreds of miles on various
backpacking trips.
This is a picture of my boys (Michael and
Jeremy) and I near the top of Grand Pass.

My Wife - Mary Ann
My better half - Mary Ann. Finnish and German
background. Born and raised in Wright County Minnesota, where her family owns a Dairy
Farm. We've been together for 28 years. It keeps
getting better.
This is one of my favorite photos of her. It
was a few years ago in Paris sitting at the steps of the Obelisk.

My Sons - Michael and Jeremy
Mary Ann and I are blessed with 2 excellent
sons.
Jeremy (on the left) is currently 19 years
old and Michael (on the right) is now 22. Both are excellent family members,
smile a lot, have a great love of Math, and are extremely
different. And, as you can see, they treat their mother great!
As a family we celebrate their differences.
Michael is disciplined, very organized, and has a wonderful way with
developing and nurturing strong friendships. He is an exceptional basketball
player and a top student. Michael is currently a Senior at University of
Washington Business School. He is a member of the FIJIs.
Jeremy is spontaneous and has a wonderful
appreciation for life and all of its subtleties. He is creative, spiritual
and also a top student. Jeremy is currently a Sophomore at Central
Washington University.
It is a real joy to hang out with these guys - Michael is typically reminding me of some thoughtful task
that needs to be attended to, while Jeremy will be finding humor
or enlightening facts and sharing them with us all. Truly I'm blessed!

SHOTO-KAN Karate
I started karate in 1993 to hang out with my
youngest son Jeremy. He stopped and I continued. I passed my BROWN
BELT test before I stopped working out regularly. I enjoyed kata and loved to fight (kumite).
My Sensei - Kevin O'Neil, is a close friend and I assume I will be applying
karate to my everyday activities the rest
of my life. This is a picture of Clay Waldron (the tall Brown Belt on the
Right) and myself (the green belt in the back line third from left) standing with Shihan Heilman
after having gone through techniques of an Okinawan Oar Kata. Clay and I
both went on the next day to win 1st Place Trophies in our respective
divisions at a large torunament there in Georgia.

Denali Trip
My sons and I traveled to Alaska in September
of 2006 and visited DENALI. The Denali National Park tour was boring. The
land was fabulous, the mountains amazing, but the bus tour put you to sleep.
After the tour and some local hiking we headed back down to Talkeetna to
board a flight to fly around the mountain (DENALI).
We booked our flight with
K2 Aviation and they did a fabulous
job. We flew around the mountain and actually landed on
a glacier! The pilot was excellent and the flight
thrilling!

"Rivers and the inhabitants of the
watery elements are made for wise men to contemplate and for fools to pass by
without consideration." - Izaac Walton
"The fishing was good; it was
the catching that was bad." - A.K. Best
"Three-fourths of the Earth's
surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord
intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the
lawn." - Chuck Clark
"There he stands, draped in more equipment than a
telephone lineman, trying to outwit an organism with a brain no bigger than a
breadcrumb, and getting licked in the process." - Paul O'Neil
